Shark® vacuums have zero maintenance costs. What does that mean?
All Shark® vacuums come with high-quality, washable filters that can be used and re-used, plus a lifetime belt that never needs replacing. Both are backed by Shark's leading 7-year warranty offer and have no hidden maintenance costs.

Lifetime filters: Shark® Rotator®'s filter system will last the life of your vacuum, with minimal maintenance and no replacement costs required. Your filters will discolor over time but will not lose their effectiveness.

Lifetime belt: Shark® Rotator®'s intelligent electronic system will shut off the power nozzle motor to avoid belt wear if the brushroll is blocked by a large object, such as a sock or carpet edge. Simply turn off the power, unplug the vacuum, remove the obstruction, then return to vacuuming — with no belt maintenance or replacement costs to worry about.

What is the difference between hard floor, carpet/low pile, and thick carpet/area rug modes?
The Shark® Rotator® Powered Lift-Away® vacuum has three powerful settings for cleaning. For bare floors and accessories: Press the power button on the handle to turn on the suction, then slide the surface selector to "Hard Floor." Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushroll will not spin in this mode. For carpets there are two settings. Slide the surface selector to "Carpet/Low Pile" for low-pile and normal carpet types. This is the default carpet setting. The "Thick Carpet/Area Rug" setting is the best setting for high-pile and thick carpets, area rugs, and specialty carpets if the vacuum is difficult to push or pull due to high suction. This setting produces reduced suction with motorized brushroll. While the power is on, tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle in order to start the brushroll spinning. The brushroll indicator light underneath the button will illuminate when the button is engaged.

Note: For deep cleaning per ASTM F608 (embedded dirt in carpets), please set to "Carpet/Low Pile."

What do I do if my vacuum is hard to push or pull on certain carpets or area rugs?
The Shark® Rotator® Powered Lift-Away® vacuum has three powerful settings for cleaning. For bare floors and accessories: Press the power button on the handle to turn on the suction, then slide the surface selector to "hard floor." Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushroll will not spin in this mode. For carpets, there are two settings. For low-pile an normal carpet types, slide the surface selector to "carpet/low pile." This is the default carpet setting and provides high suction with the motorized brushroll. The "thick carpet/area rug" setting is best for high-pile and thick carpets, area rugs, and specialty carpets, especially if high suction makes the vacuum difficult to push or pull. This setting produces reduced suction with the motorized brushroll. While the power is on, tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. This will cause the brushroll to start spinning. The brushroll indicator light underneath the button will illuminate when the brushroll is engaged.

Note: For deep cleaning per ASTM F608 (embedded dirt in carpets), please set to "carpet/low pile."

What happens if I experience small static shocks while I am vacuuming?
Certain dry temperatures in winter or dry desert areas may cause common static electricity to build up in the vacuum, producing small shocks, similar to what you might experience from doorknobs, wool sweaters, or blankets. This is harmless. In order to avoid this, we recommend moisturizing your hands and/or removing wool socks or sweaters prior to vacuuming.
